Lachs Infocenter

Description
Using the Atlantic salmon as an example, our information center raises awareness about water quality, waterbody structure, and river dynamics. Discover why sustainable management of our natural landscape is vital for native flora and fauna and how this sustainable approach can be developed. Until the end of the 19th century, the Atlantic salmon secured the livelihood of many fishermen in our region. After a complete population collapse, the species lost its importance as a target of inland fishing in Central Europe. However, it remains a key indicator of intact habitats in public awareness.
It thus plays an important role as a representative for less well-known fish species like brown trout, bullhead, or brook lamprey, which—like the salmon—depend on specific ecological conditions. The Lachs Infocenter brings together the latest findings from research, fishing, and environmental protection and supports efforts to reintroduce salmon to the Weser river basin.
