Description

Leuchtenburg is known as the Queen of the Saale Valley, impressing visitors with its medieval setting high atop a 395-meter hill.

A special highlight is the Porcelain Worlds Exhibition, featuring a museum and the modern Wishing Bridge Trail that stretches spectacularly into the valley. From here, visitors can enjoy wonderful panoramic views of the Middle Saale Valley and the Thuringian Woodland 🌄.

The castle’s history is diverse: it has served as an administrative center, poorhouse, psychiatric hospital, and prison. The modern castle chapel, designed with an innovative slatted curtain made of technical porcelain, invites guests to special Easter events in what is called the Porcelain Church.

Since 2007, a foundation has worked to preserve and revitalize Leuchtenburg, which celebrated its 800th anniversary together with the village of Seitenroda in 2021. Its unique charm also became famous through a popular TV crime series filmed here in 2017.
