MEGa - Mitmach- und Erlebnisgarten

Welcome to the interactive and adventure garden!

This unique nature experience is located right on the Hartmannshof farm, a social institution of the Rotenburger Werke, where people with disabilities live and work in two residential groups on the farm. Their responsibilities include growing vegetables and caring for the chickens, mother cows, donkeys, and ponies. They also run the farm café.

Together with the residents, NABU Rotenburg created various habitats for plants and animals on a 2.5-hectare area from 2013 to 2015, such as an amphibian pond, areas with perennials and roses, as well as demonstration beds with vegetables from grandma’s times. Since then, NABU has continuously expanded the facility, around 2017 adding a historically accurate reconstructed cruck-frame sheep barn. The greenhouse of the Rotenburger Werke assists with the maintenance of the interactive and adventure garden. Volunteer NABU members take care of repairs, beds, and the greenhouse.

Detailed information boards and an audio guide, which you can borrow directly at the farm café or download as an app to your smartphone, provide insights into the various habitats and nature experiences. This way, you can explore the interactive and adventure garden on your own. There are also great play options such as a large snake swing, a herd of wooden horses, the teepee, and a group seesaw. Various seating and resting spots, some covered, invite you to pause in between.

The nonprofit GmbH “Bündnis für Naturschutz und Inklusion” is responsible for tours and other shared projects. NABU initiated its founding following positive experiences working with the Rotenburger Werke. If you would like a guided tour, please feel free to contact us.

Farm Café

For a refreshment, the farm café offers a variety of delicious treats (please note the opening hours!). Here you can enjoy coffee and cake, tarts, savory tarte flambée, and a breakfast buffet in a special atmosphere. Larger groups are kindly asked to register in advance at Tel. 04261 / 9208888.
