Description

The Museumsinsel Bardowick is one of the five Museumsinseln in the Elbmarsch region. Outside, it offers fascinating information about the history and culture of the Elbmarsch, with a focus on life with and around the water.

At Museumsinsel Bardowick in the guild house, you learn how Bardowick played a major role as a medieval trading place and later as an important center for vegetable and seed trade. There were many waterway connections to Hamburg.

The exhibitions especially highlight the historic water trade routes – from the Ilmenau River to the canal system. You'll find out how goods like salt and vegetables were transported by water to the major cities, providing fascinating insights into old transportation and logistics. A great experience for families wanting to discover more about life and history on the water! 🌊
