Description

This church hosted the first Lutheran service in Göttingen in 1529, as well as the solemn inauguration of the university (1737). Today, the church is part of the Lower Saxony State and University Library (since 1812), and its historically inspired library hall provides space for rotating exhibitions.

The Akademiehof features the Lichtenberg Monument by Prof. Volker Neuhoff (1992) and the sculpture "Butt im Griff" by Günter Grass (2004).

There is also a fully functional replica of the Gauss-Weber telegraph by Reinhold Wittig (2011), which allows you to send messages in Morse code to a second station in front of the Historic Observatory.
