Description

Radioteleskop Effelsberg is one of the largest and most powerful fully steerable radio telescopes in the world. With a 100-meter parabolic dish, it can be rotated 360 degrees and tilted 90 degrees within minutes.

The enormous antenna surface of 7,850 square meters allows it to receive extremely faint radio signals from the depths of space – making Effelsberg one of the most sensitive observatories in Europe.

The telescope observes numerous cosmic phenomena such as pulsars, cold gas and dust clouds, star-forming regions, magnetic fields in the Milky Way and other galaxies, jets from black holes, as well as the cores of distant galaxies.

Effelsberg is part of a global network of radio telescopes, enabling especially sharp images of the universe.

Visitors can attend regular lectures in the nearby pavilion to learn more about radio astronomy.

Please switch off electronic devices or put them in airplane mode near the telescope to avoid interference with the sensitive measurements.
