Description

The Ruine Ligist invites visitors to walk in the footsteps of a medieval castle. The route crosses a stone arch bridge that spans the ring moat and leads directly into the site.

The castle was built toward the end of the 12th century to protect a trade route along which wine was transported toward Kärnten. There is plenty to discover on the grounds:

  • The 18,7 meter high keep, the oldest part of the castle
  • An alchemist's chamber where gold was reportedly made, as historical estimates from 1669 and 1725 mention
  • The cannon rondel in the southeastern corner, which was added in the final construction phase
  • The Weihnacht auf der Burg Christmas market, held on the grounds since 2011

A visit combines old history with plenty of castle atmosphere and is well suited for a family day out together.
