Südpark

Description
With the Vorderer and Hinterer Gotthardteich park areas, Südpark forms the largest continuous green space in the city, covering 23.5 hectares. Since the political change, the city of Merseburg has made great efforts to make the park increasingly attractive. A playground with a climbing structure awaits the little visitors today, but Südpark also offers something special for teenagers with its streetball court. The main attraction of Südpark remains the local animal park, home to about 300 animals across 59 species, which is still free for visitors to enjoy. A bus line, parking lots, and bike paths ensure easy access.
Highly recommended is an extensive walk from the city center through the green spaces of the Vorderer and Hinterer Gotthardteich, featuring its rose garden and continuing all the way to Südpark. Besides Südpark with its local animal park, the city of Merseburg offers other "green" highlights such as the City Park with its interesting flora and fauna, intersected by the regional Saale bike trail, all worth exploring when visiting the cathedral and university city of Merseburg.
