Description

As peaceful as this Thermalbad Aukammtal in Aukammtal valley, two kilometers northeast of Wiesbaden’s center, may seem: its warm water owes its existence to an ill-mannered giant – at least if you believe an old Wiesbaden legend. According to the tale, the giant Ekko once searched in vain for a dragon deep beneath the Taunus forest. With all his might, he thrust his lance into the ground, only to burn his feet and face on the scalding hot water that suddenly burst forth. Angered, he stabbed repeatedly into the earth, thereby exposing the five main springs that have since supplied Wiesbaden with wonderfully warm spring water. Today, there is no sign of the giant’s rage, but the springs continue to flow steadily. Underground pipes carry the spring water from a storage facility straight to the Thermalbad Aukammtal. At a pleasant 32 degrees Celsius, body and soul relax — only to be energized again with a jump into the ice-cold plunge pool. The Thermalbad area covers a total of 4,400 square meters, featuring six different saunas and a spa area with massage and cosmetic treatments. Thanks to its high salt content, Thermalbad Aukammtal is especially beneficial for orthopedic and rheumatic conditions.
