Werratalsee

Description
The third largest lake in Hesse, covering 110 hectares, lies at the foot of the Leuchtberge, within walking distance of Eschwege’s timber-framed old town and the Meinhard districts of Schwebda and Grebendorf.
Two swimming areas with sandy beaches on the south shore (Eschwege) and the east shore (Meinhard-Schwebda) offer plenty of water fun. On the south shore in Eschwege, a designated section with proper water treatment guarantees year-round swimming enjoyment.
During the summer months, the Eschwege swimming area is monitored by the DLRG on weekends and during summer holidays when the weather is good. Swimming is also allowed on the east shore, where there is a small dog beach.
At the lake you'll find
two adventure playgrounds
the Werratalsee circular trail (7 km, accessible)
beach volleyball courts
bocce
table tennis
a multiple award-winning 5-star campsite in Eschwege and a nature camp in Schwebda

opportunities to surf with your own board (access points on the south shore near the campsite and on the north shore), row, or sail (for the slipway: Harbor Master Jürgen Wiegler, mobile: 0151 20122098)
good fishing conditions
Sailing regattas and the Hessian rowing championships are regularly held on the Werratalsee.
