Wildgehege am Kehr

Description
On a total area of 22 hectares, 42 fallow deer and 22 wild boars live together in their natural environment. Both big and small visitors are always welcome: along a 3 km circular trail, many of these forest inhabitants can be observed. Feeding is also allowed: vending machines with special feed for a few cents are attached to the fences. If you dare, the animals often eat right out of your hand. Free admission! The wild boar (Sus scrofa L.) is also called "black game" because of its black bristly coat and is the ancestor of our domestic pig. These intelligent and adaptable animals live in social family groups, communicating with each other through squealing and grunting calls. They enjoy contact with their kind, often lie together, rub their hides against each other, and groom one another. Anyone interested can watch them: they usually wallow near the fence. Fallow deer (Dama dam L.) belong to the deer family and today are mainly found in the wild in Schleswig-Holstein as well as Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg. Fallow deer live in large herds, are active during the day, and are very social. In enclosures, they quickly get used to humans, are easy to observe, and even come to the fence when attracted to be fed or petted.
