Christmas Market "Fairytale Calw"
Description
The Calw market square with its wonderful historic backdrop is one of the most delightful places to get into the Advent spirit.
Fairytale Calw
When the entire half-timbered ensemble glows in romantic lights and the scent of mulled wine and freshly baked treats drifts through the old town, a stroll past the lovingly decorated little houses becomes a very special experience.
Over 80 stalls in the open area, as well as a craft market in the music school hall and the traditional Christmas café, are set up and lovingly decorated on the market square and in the surrounding lanes and adjacent buildings. There you will find goods such as wooden figures, nativity scenes, wreaths, chocolate, sausage and cheese specialties, roasted almonds, Ausstecherle and much more. Culinary offerings include treats like bratwurst, langos, crêpes, Schupfnudeln, filled pastries - and of course mulled wine, tea or coffee. Here too, there are no limits to the variety.
Music plays at various locations and entertains visitors accordingly. Among others, the Stadt- und Jugendkapelle Calw, the Trachtenkapelle Altburg, the Musikverein Stammheim, Stimm3, reVocali and many more acts will be performing again. On Friday evening a DJ will spin at a winter party - dancing is allowed.
Traditions and activities around the Christmas market
The Christmas café in the town hall foyer invites you to delights for the soul and the ears.
The Advent craft market will again take place in the hall of the music school.
With the baking of bear paw cookies for a good cause, an old tradition continues in Calw. The treats are a special pleasure - and for a good cause.
A special feature is the Calw Springerle mold, which each year features a distinctive building as its motif. For the big city anniversary celebrating 950 years of Calw, the already sold-out molds "Stadtkirche", "Rathaus" and "Nikolauskapelle / Nikolausbrücke" are being reissued.
A festive city walk with a view from a high path over the historic old town or a climb up the church tower of the Stadtkirche puts visitors in an enchanting Advent mood.
There is also plenty on offer for children:
In the Angel Post children can write their wish lists. After all, Calw also has a "hotline" straight to the Christ Child.
A cozy Advent lounge invites you to toast bread on a campfire. In addition to a children's carousel, a train and an alpaca petting zoo, the little ones can do crafts, paint and listen to stories. And of course a visit from Saint Nicholas is not to be missed.
New this year is the Wichtelgarten: in the newly laid out city garden a fanciful, lovingly designed place is emerging that lets visitors immerse themselves in an enchanted world with small elf figures, little houses and other creative elements.
Schools, kindergartens, clubs, families and local artists create a colorful and lively atmosphere there that enchants young and old and makes the anticipation of the Christmas season a special experience.
Market hours:
Thursday, November 26: 15-21

Changed traffic routing on the occasion of the Christmas market
In connection with the Calw Christmas market and the setup and dismantling work in the days before and after the market, there will be restrictions as well as street and parking closures in the city center area. Affected areas include the market square, Marktstraße, parts of Salzgasse and Altburger Straße as well as the area in front of the Hermann-Hesse-Museum.
Temporary restrictions in the mentioned streets can be expected from Monday, November 17: the axes Marktstraße – Marktplatz – Salzgasse and Altburger Straße – Marktplatz – Postgasse will be partially fully closed on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Detours into the streets Am Schießberg, Im Zwinger and Hermann-Haffner-Straße are via Badstraße and Metzgergasse or via Schillerstraße. The barrier in Schillerstraße is open during that period, and some one-way street regulations are partly lifted.
Access from Marktbrücke into Lederstraße, for example to the Parkhaus Calwer Markt, is possible even during the market. Access to Torgasse, Biergasse, Nonnengasse and Postgasse is via Unteres Ledereck.
Weekly market relocation
The weekly market will be moved to Lederstraße on November 22 and 29: the stalls with fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, cheese specialties, antipasti, meat and sausage products and much more can be found on those two days in the area between Hörgeräte Geers and the AOK office.
