Description
The Stille Nacht Krippe was present at the premiere of „Stille Nacht“ on 24. Dezember 1818: Joseph Mohr sang tenor and played guitar, Franz Xaver Gruber sang bass. The song is today sung in over 350 languages and dialects – a worldwide connection you can easily follow. 🎶
The nativity scene dates from around 1800 and features around 100 figures with wax heads and magnificent costumes in a detailed, atmospheric landscape with a view from Oberndorf to the Alpine scenery. The scene was restored and newly presented in the anniversary year 2018 – ideal for children to take a close look.
For families there are digital and audio offerings: an audio guide (German & English) and a 3D virtual tour, with which you can discover the figures in more detail. The nativity also has an eventful provenance – from storage with nuns to the donation to the town in 1933 – and is worth seeing not only at Christmas. 🧸
