Barkenhoff / Heinrich-Vogeler-Museum

Description
The Heinrich-Vogeler-Museum at Barkenhoff invites you to discover the diverse world of an extraordinary artist. From his beginnings at the Düsseldorf Art Academy through Art Nouveau and Expressionism to his later works that show the influence of the First World War and alternative social ideas, you will experience an exciting evolution in words and images.
In addition to paintings, the exhibition also includes original pieces of furniture, design and architectural drawings as well as artfully crafted objects like jewelry, porcelain, and glass. This makes Heinrich Vogeler come alive as a versatile designer and interior architect.
The Barkenhoff itself, his former home and studio, offers more than just art – it embodies history: it was a cultural center, a model for social experiments after the First World War, and occasionally a children's home – today the Barkenhoff Foundation preserves this heritage for you.
For families, there is the “Kunststunde” program, which introduces art in a playful way. It’s also worth visiting the exhibition “Impuls Paula”, which focuses on the famous portrait “Girl with a Pearl Necklace” by Paula Modersohn-Becker and presents the development of portraiture over more than a century.
An interactive portrait project called @ichbin_dubist.menschenbilder invites you to participate actively, while the charming garden space and a screening of the short film “PAULA” by Eva Matz complete the experience. Discover art, history, and family activities in this special place! 🎨
