Bergkirchenviertel

Description
Wiesbaden-Mitte is a lively neighborhood, which the operators of the local shops, bars, and cafés also refer to as the “golden center” – with a certain ironic tone, since the Bergkirchenviertel originally developed about 180 years ago as a residential area away from the wealthy city center. Back then, known as the “Katzelöcher,” the apartments were small, cramped, and simply furnished; they housed the service staff of Wiesbaden's villa and hotel owners. Today, the former “Katzelöcher” are among the most sought-after residential areas. Around Nerostraße, Jawlenskystraße, Obere Webergasse, and Taunusstraße, a diverse neighborhood has grown, featuring owner-run shops, studios like “Ile 22,” stores like the “Bike Loft,” and wine bars such as “Weinod.” A small path from Nerostraße leads up to the Bergkirche, completed in 1879, which gave the neighborhood its name. Guided tours offer insights into Saalgasse, Obere Webergasse, and Nerostraße, connecting the main spots of the quarter into a coherent whole.
