Burg Zwernitz
Description
Burg Zwernitz sits impressively atop a narrow dolomite cliff and has a long history – it was first mentioned in 1156 as the ancestral seat of the Walpoten family, and later as the administrative center for the Burgraves of Nuremberg and the Margraves of Bayreuth.
The walkable castle tower offers a magnificent view over the Franconian Switzerland Nature Park and was once used to send smoke signals through a network of watchtowers. This way, the tower combines history with a fascinating panorama. 🏰
Inside the castle, the permanent exhibition “Margravial Hunt” invites you to dive into the courtly hunting traditions of the 18th century. It shows how important hunting was as a symbol of status at court. Especially exciting for families: interactive stations about hunting and knighthood, where children can guess and participate.
There is also a child-friendly audio guide available for download onto your smartphone and an engaging activity booklet that can be borrowed at the museum ticket office – making your family visit a real adventure.
