Freilichtmuseum Molfsee - Landesmuseum für Volkskunde
Description
Freilichtmuseum Molfsee - Landesmuseum für Volkskunde impressively showcases everyday life and cultural history of rural Schleswig-Holstein. Spread over 40 hectares, it features 60 historic buildings from the 16th to the 20th century, dismantled from various locations in Schleswig-Holstein and the Danish border region, then reconstructed in Molfsee. Numerous exciting events – from special exhibitions and large markets to theater performances, concerts, and lectures – make the museum a popular destination.
The Schleswig-Holstein Open-Air Museum interprets the cultural history and folk traditions of rural areas. The large site with meadows, gardens, fields, and ponds includes over 70 historic buildings, farmsteads, and mills from various Schleswig-Holstein landscapes, furnished with household items, furniture, and work tools for you to see and experience. Animals kept historically on farms and gardens associated with the houses complement the site to provide a complete and lively impression of living and working in past centuries. Dive into a long-gone rural life! Craftsmen (basket makers, blacksmiths, wood turners, potters, weavers, woodcarvers) demonstrate their skills in various buildings and sometimes sell their products. Want to know what life felt like? Try your hand at carrying heavy wooden buckets with a yoke, operate a washing board, or use an old mangle at one of the experience stations.
