Description

On sunny days, around 20,000 beachgoers, surfers, and walkers fill the seemingly endless Hauptstrand St. Peter-Ording. Despite the crowds, everyone – if they want – can still find plenty of space, often as large as a soccer field. The beach is clearly divided: to the north, naturists enjoy their freedom; in the middle, surfers have fun; and to the south, the textile beach invites you to swim. Several pedestrian and bicycle piers provide access, while the famous one-kilometer-long pier is reserved exclusively for pedestrians.

Driving your car directly to the beach – a special experience

Ordinger Beach offers something rare: you can drive right onto it. Visitors also find plenty of parking spots along the access road and at the foot of the dike. Those without a car can easily take the local bus, which runs hourly to Böhler Beach and Südstrand. Between May 1 and September 30, there is a designated parking area right at the beach. But be careful: this area can occasionally be flooded by the North Sea – so always keep an eye on announcements from beach patrol!

The perfect family beach

While adults relax in beach chairs, children can have fun in the huge fine sandbox. Numerous playgrounds offer variety, and sandcastles can be built right next to parents. Flying kites is also allowed and very popular. Of course, a vigilant DLRG lifeguard team ensures safety. Beach chairs, toilets, showers, and restaurants on stilts are also available.

Sports, action, and water fun

This beach is a paradise for sports enthusiasts. Beginners can take surf and kiteboarding lessons, while advanced and professional surfers enjoy perfect wind and wave conditions. Soccer and volleyball fields invite exciting matches.

Important information for dog owners

Dogs are welcome in many areas, but leashes are required on the beach promenade, in the dunes, in the St. Peter-Ording forest, as well as on hiking trails and pedestrian zones. Drinking stations for dogs are located in front of many restaurants and the tourism offices. Dogs are also welcome in the Wadden Sea National Park, but here leash rules apply as well to protect the local wildlife. Sheep, seals, and seabirds should remain undisturbed. To let dogs run free, there are two specially designated dog off-leash areas right on the beach where they can run, play, and cool off in the North Sea waves to their hearts' content.
