Description

Heiliger Berg captivates with a historic church dedicated to Saints Joachim and Anna. Dating back to 1660, it features Baroque highlights such as a Rococo altar and impressive frescoes.

Family fun awaits at the Kalvarienberg on the summit, with four Passion chapels, Baroque-painted scenes, sculptures by Philipp Jakob Straub, and an 18th-century crucifix group. Children can explore historic frescoes in the nearby Holy Sepulchre Chapel from 1776 and dive into earlier religious art.

A special experience is the pilgrim's Way of the Cross from Bärnbach to the church and monastery on the hill – an engaging spiritual walk in nature for the whole family. The Carmelite monastery, founded in 1975, even features archaeological finds like urnfield ceramics and weaving weights among its attractions.

Heiliger Berg has a long history from prehistoric times through the Roman era to today, making it a fascinating place for educational family outings. Art lovers will find stone sculptures and reliefs from the 17th and 18th centuries all around, including works by Johann Jakob Schoy, such as the unique group sculpture of Jesus and the Samaritan woman.

An emotional artwork also awaits you along the pilgrim's path: a double wayside shrine with wooden sculptures of the weeping women at the tomb from the 17th century – a quiet, touching place full of history.
