Description

The Heimatkundliche Sammlung im Heimathaus offers fascinating insights into life and craftsmanship in Pfronten before industrialization.

On the ground floor, the local room displays a family living room with a historic lathe once used for home-based metalwork. The collection includes traditional agricultural tools like wooden rakes, manure buckets, and measuring vessels for grain.

You'll also learn about traditional trades such as forestry and coopering with their characteristic tools. Especially captivating is the flax processing exhibition, showing every stage from harvesting to spinning and weaving – an important craft up to the early 20th century.

Household technology from before electricity, including hand-operated washing machines, wringers, and manual irons, reveals everyday life of earlier generations. You can also discover tools from the local dairy industry, like butter churns, honey extractors, and storage baskets.

Historical scenes from the region, such as an 1850 drawing showing resin collectors and coopers, illustrate the interaction between people and nature. Furniture highlights include a cabinet dating back to around 1800 that was long used as a sacristy cupboard, as well as nightstands with special flaps revealing their function. A visit offers great insights into Pfronten’s history and traditions! 🏡
