Description

The Stadtmuseum Marktoberdorf brings the city’s history to life for the whole family – from village to city across 18 fascinating themed rooms.

Explore the Roman and Alemannic periods, the development under the Hochstift Augsburg, and up through the 20th century. The exhibition covers diverse aspects of life such as art, theater, music, and everyday life for women, with a special focus on the shift from craftsmanship to industry.

A true highlight for children is the story of the Fendt family and their achievements in mechanics and manufacturing – featuring the Fendt F 18 tractor from 1947 as a symbol of industrial progress.

The museum also showcases an impressive collection of folk piety, including votive paintings, offerings, and Druden stones, which reveal the faith, hopes, and fears of people from earlier times.

The Spöttl Nativity Scene – the oldest mechanical nativity scene in Swabia – draws many families and children during the Advent season with its unique presentation.

Additionally, the museum connects regional history with the Riesengebirgsmuseum, which covers the postwar period and expulsions, providing a broad insight into the past.
