Description

Künstlerhaus Marktoberdorf is a museum of contemporary art and education with a special focus on art mediation and museum pedagogy for children and young people.

The museum offers exciting exhibitions, including the annual Ostallgäu Art Exhibition – one of the most important art competitions in Swabia. Here, local artists have the opportunity to present their works to a wider audience within a museum setting.

Particularly interesting is the architecture tour, which presents the Künstlerhaus as the first museum building by the architects Bearth & Deplazes. The building combines a restored townhouse from the 1920s with a modern extension from 2001, linked by a light-filled corridor – a successful blend of clear, minimalist architecture and historic elements.

The Künstlerhaus emphasizes a lively exhibition space with a workshop character, defined by bright walls and lovingly preserved historical details. The program is completed by the exhibition JUNGE KUNST, held every five years, which accompanies the awarding of a regional art prize.
