Description

The Hiroshima-Hain, also known as the Hiroshima Memorial Grove, was established in 1987 in a park within the Eilenriede forest in the Bult district of Hanover. It commemorates the 110,000 Japanese who lost their lives during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. The grove was created as part of the sister city relationship between Hanover, the capital of Lower Saxony, and the Japanese city of Hiroshima. It features a memorial site with 110 cherry trees, art installations, and a granite monument. Each year, alongside events on August 6, the site hosts a celebration of the Japanese cherry blossom festival. Additionally, it serves as a local recreation area.
