Description

## Brief description

Behind the Art Nouveau facade of the former gas and electricity plant in Schönebeck (Elbe), forgotten industrial history meets art.

## Description

A high machine hall: light streams through arched windows onto various devices and equipment, and a glass tube glows a mysterious blue inside a cabinet. The historic mercury vapor rectifier is still fully operational. It produces direct current at high voltage. The rectifier is part of the fascinating exhibition at iMUSEt. The Industrie- und Kunstmuseum Schönebeck: Von Kukident bis Tübke shows how Schönebeck became a center of industrial innovation with chemistry, explosives, tractors, and casting technology.

Alongside historic primer presses, a prototype folding bicycle, and tractors from GDR production, the history of the Kukirol works is also presented—famous for developing the well-known Kukident in the 1930s. The residential house of the plant engineer is dedicated entirely to the fine arts. Here you can see paintings by world-renowned Schönebeck artists like Werner Tübke and the Heise sisters, as well as an exhibition featuring works by the war-blinded sculptor Dario Malkowski.
