## Description

The neo-Gothic brick building in Salzwedel has a varied history: first a higher girls' school, later the House of Pioneers, and after a long period of vacancy, since 2015 a house of art for the citizens and visitors of Salzwedel.

The centerpiece is the auditorium with its high, wood-paneled ceiling and a wooden gallery used for concerts, readings, theater performances, and festive events. A highlight is the exhibition rooms on the first floor. A permanent exhibition shows print graphics from the Expressionism era. Notable artists such as Max Beckmann, Otto Dix, Lyonel Feininger, and Käthe Kollwitz are featured. In addition, several special exhibitions take place annually.

The cultural center also offers studios and rehearsal rooms for local groups. An open-air cinema attracts visitors in the evenings to the beautiful garden of the Kunsthaus. The team at the restaurant »heimart« creates small works of art on the plate, mainly from regional ingredients.

## Parking Information

Free parking is available at the nearby lot on Neuperverstraße by the Kunsthaus, with daytime parking limited to three hours using a parking disc.

## Arrival Information

From the Magdeburg interchange, it is about 95 kilometers via the A14 and B71 to Salzwedel. The cultural center is located north of the old town.

## Public Transportation

From Salzwedel train station, it is a 1.2 kilometer walk via Bahnhof-, Breite-, and Neuperverstraße to the Kunsthaus. Alternatively, you can take a call bus to the nearby stop »Rathausturm«. Booking must be made at least half an hour in advance.
