Description

## Short Description

In Zethlingen, a journey through time takes you nearly 2,000 years into the past. At the Langobardenwerkstatt, you can experience how people lived and worked back then.

## Description

In the first centuries after Christ, the so-called Elbgermanen lived in Zethlingen, probably from the Langobards tribe. They buried their dead on the Mühlenberg. The bodies were cremated and often buried with jewelry, tools, or weapons as grave goods. Almost 2,000 such cremation graves have already been discovered by archaeologists here.

You can learn how people lived back then at the open-air museum, where small wooden houses, stables, and workshops have been reconstructed. People dressed in Langobard clothing demonstrate what was grown, how weaving, dyeing, or pottery was done. You can also try your hand at ancient crafts or combat skills – such as forging, archery, and stone throwing. Here you’ll also discover how iron was already smelted in clay blast furnaces back then. You can experience the Langobardenwerkstatt during theme days and other events or by appointment. The summer holiday workshops for children are especially popular.
