Description

The Manderscheider Burgen offer fascinating insights into history and impressive views 🌄. The upper castle features an almost triangular curtain wall and a restored five-story bergfried, from which you can enjoy wonderful views of the lower castle, the town of Manderscheid, and the idyllic Liesertal landscape.

The lower castle is situated on a rock in the Liesertal, surrounded on three sides by the Lieser River, and once played an important role in traffic control and defense. It is open daily during the summer months except Tuesdays and can also be visited by groups upon request, as well as rented for private events such as weddings.

A special highlight is the annual medieval festival held on the last weekend of August, attracting around 15,000 visitors and many fans of history and tradition. The castles also inspired artworks, including paintings by Eugen Bracht.
