Description

Mehrgenerationenpark Steinbuschanlage

Encourage natural movement and create opportunities to connect: The Steinbuschanlage, casually known as “the Anlage” by many residents of Wissen, is now a modern park with numerous playground and sports facilities for all ages. Long ago, this park was once the city’s cemetery. The name honors Pastor Anton Joseph Steinbusch (1829-1883), who did much good for the city of Wissen and its inhabitants. His honorary grave is still located in the middle of the park. The Steinbuschanlage has always been a place for relaxation, meeting others, and lingering, as well as a place of remembrance. It features a war memorial for the years 1870-1871 (Franco-Prussian War) and 1914-1918 (World War I). These monuments commemorate the war dead, including soldiers from the local area who fell in battle. Also notable is the steel sculpture "Unheilvolle Kriege und beginnende Freundschaft" (Ill-fated Wars and Emerging Friendship) by artist Arnold Morkramer. The current use as a multigenerational park honors the dignity of the site. History and future have been thoughtfully combined in the park’s design, sparking visitors' interest in the Steinbuschanlage’s history. After the redesign, which involved extensive citizen participation, the park now offers various play and sports options, an e-bike charging station, and a restroom.
