Description

The Museumsinsel Stöckter Hafen is one of the small satellite exhibitions of the Museum im Marstall in the Elbmarsch, which opened at five locations in 2023. They offer fascinating insights into the history and culture of the Elbmarsch region, focusing on life around the water.

On this island, where the Ilmenau flows into the Elbe, the importance of waterways for transport and trade in the Elbmarsch is clearly illustrated. Special attention is given to the trade in vegetables and seeds in Bardowick, which reflects the economic development from medieval arms trading to agricultural goods.

The exhibition also showcases numerous historical and technical aspects of water management, including canals, locks, and weirs that have greatly shaped life and trade in the region.
