Description
The Naturerlebnisraum is located on the edge of the charming village of Koldenbüttel, just a few kilometers south of Friedrichstadt, set within the vast, green marshland. In this flat area, visitors encounter typical features such as dikes, historic warfts, drainage ditches (Grüppen), and a natural low spot – a depression with water near the dike.
A 3.4 km long tree trail leads to all the "Trees of the Year" from 1989 to 2017 and offers interesting details about local flora on interactive panels. You can rest on grassy meadows and around a small pond home to frogs, newts, and water beetles – a true habitat for young and old alike. The natural area is highlighted by pollarded willows, with explanations of their cutting history and importance to over 180 animal species. Information panels in German and Danish provide additional insights into the history, ecology, and traditional use of this human-shaped cultural landscape. The expansive view over the marsh stretching to the horizon is perfect for truly experiencing the fascination and openness of the North Frisian cultural landscape.
