Description

The Pilgerkreuz am Veitscher Ölberg is considered the largest walk-in wooden cross in the world. It stands about 40.7 meters tall and has a span of roughly 32.2 meters. Inside, you can climb up to a height of about 27 meters.

Along the way up, you can expect the following:

  • Six chambers with different themes that tell the story of Creation
  • A quiet room for reflection and prayer, located where the arms of the cross meet
  • Built from about 230 cubic meters of wood, roughly 380 running meters of larch

The cross is seen as a symbol of peace and understanding between peoples and is visited by many pilgrims on the Mariazellerweg 06. 🙏
