Salzlandmuseum Schönebeck: Vom Reichtum des Salzlandkreises

Description
## Short Description
Salt has been the source of the region's wealth since the Middle Ages. The Alte Rathaus in Bad Salzelmen houses a modern museum dedicated to the White Gold.
## Description
Medieval brine extraction, the once nearly two-kilometer-long graduation tower, and the development of the brine spa – visitors can explore these and many other topics related to over 800 years of salt production history at the Salzlandmuseum Schönebeck. Because White Gold is so important for Salzlandkreis, the museum was allowed to move into venerable walls. The exhibition, which also covers the region's prehistoric and early history, is located in the Alte Rathaus of the Bad Salzelmen district. Its representative south wing probably dates from the 14th century, while the north wing was built around 1536.
Another part of the exhibition is dedicated to Elbe river shipping. Visitors can also see paintings and graphics by the local-born sisters Katharina and Annemarie Heise as well as Werner Tübke. The Heise sisters were part of Berlin’s art scene during the Weimar Republic, and Tübke was one of the most important artists of the GDR and a co-founder of the Leipzig School.
