Schaubergwerk Sunnpau

At Schaubergwerk Sunnpau you can experience 4.000 years of copper mining history. Helm and lamp are provided and the visitor route leads through a prehistoric chamber – the large hall up to 10 meters high, unique in Central Europe. ⛏️

There are hands-on demonstrations of old extraction techniques: wooden wedges, stone hammer and fire-setting, as they were used over 3.000 years ago. The guided tour also shows the technical change – from hammer and chisel to gunpowder and dynamite.

Across a bridge you reach Bronze Age smelting furnaces and see how ore became tools and jewelry. A QR code provides a free audio guide, and a virtual tour is also available.
