Description

The Schloss Reichenau was built around 1190 by the Herren von Stuppach-Klamm on a bend of the Schwarza river. Herzog Otto der Fröhliche purchased the estate in 1333 and handed the castle over to Stift Neuberg.

For more than 450 years, Cistercian monks lived in Reichenau, and abbots from Neuberg often spent extended periods at the castle, since the climate was especially favorable.

  • Landesausstellung 2003: The castle was the main venue of the Lower Austrian State Exhibition.
  • Faszination Semmeringbahn 2004: A large railway exhibition marking the 150th anniversary of the Semmeringbahn.
  • Kulturprojekt: A foundation established in 1992 by the last owner aims to create a cultural center in the castle.

Anyone who combines history, art, and technology will find something here.
