Schutzstation Wattenmeer Nordstrand

Around the Nordstrand peninsula, we not only care for the national park but also offer numerous events for vacationers, schools, and groups. Discover the mudflats with us on a guided mudflat hike, learn about the fascinating birdlife on an ornithological tour, or explore the salt marshes at the interface between land and sea. Of course, we also offer amber polishing workshops.

Nationalpark-Haus Nordstrand – exhibition about the Wadden Sea and the National Park

Nordstrand is located right in the heart of the National Park and the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site. Our small exhibition invites you to explore the mudflats and many of its creatures through a landscape model, an aquarium, and other exhibits. The room is accessible during the Tourist Information’s opening hours.

Our station team

The Schutzstation Nordstrand is led by Katharina Weinberg, who is supported year-round by a young person in the Federal Volunteer Service (BFD) and another in the Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ). In the summer months, the team is reinforced by additional young people in a six-month BFD or internship.

Our local nature conservation work

With our team on Nordstrand, we care for the Wadden Sea National Park north of Husum Bay. Here we count migratory birds all year round, map breeding birds from April to June, study the benthos in late summer as part of the mudflat mapping, protect breeding birds in the foreland, and carry out wrack line inspections all year on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency.
