Description

The Städtisches Naturkundliches Museum invites you to discover the exciting nature of the Schwäbischen Alb! Across two floors, it illuminates fascinating scientific topics and showcases the natural historical connections from today and from long-past geological eras.

Here you can admire the historical fossil collection of Dr. Engel and explore exciting fossils, rocks, and minerals in the geological-paleontological exhibition. Gain deep insights into the regional rock formations and the volcanism of the Schwäbischen Alb.

Another focus is on the diverse animal world. A systematically arranged bird collection by ornithologist Dieter Rockenbauch is presented in lifelike environments. In the “Heimische Natur” room, you will learn more about the flora and fauna of the Schwäbischen Alb. A special highlight: You can even become Schmetterlingsforscher:innen 🦋 yourselves, equipped with a magnifying glass!

The archaeological collection also takes you on a journey through time. From the Steinzeit to the Alamannen and Merowingern, it presents numerous objects that illustrate the life and economy of these epochs in the Göppingen region.
