Description

## Brief Description

Hugo Junkers was a world-renowned designer, engineer, and entrepreneur. He taught at the university and held around 400 patents across various fields.

## Description

Hugo Junkers was born in 1859 in Rheydt and found success in Dessau, where he founded his company Junkers & Co. in 1895. Later, the Junkers Motorenbau GmbH and Junkers Flugzeugwerke AG followed. Initially, he worked on gas heaters, advanced the gas engine, set up a testing facility for oil engines, researched aerodynamics, and developed aircraft and engines. He was also a professor, held a chair in thermodynamics at TH Aachen, and held around 400 patents. He had to give up his companies in the early 1930s under pressure from the National Socialists, whose ideology he did not share.

The Technikmuseum Hugo Junkers, dedicated to the life and work of this brilliant designer, engineer, and entrepreneur, is especially worth visiting for the old “Tante Ju,” the JU 52/3m aircraft, and the reconstructed wind tunnel.
