Teichmühle Steinwiesen
Description
Teichmühle Steinwiesen is a historic, still-operational cutting/sawmill, that you can experience live: a four-meter-high undershot waterwheel drives the mill and produces about six to seven horsepower – a dramatic mechanical highlight for children. 🌊
Inside there's a rare royal Bavarian all-iron gang saw from the former Maxhütte, and the power transmission can be followed via visible mechanics in the lower rooms. Volunteers explain the processes during live demonstrations; guided tours are organized by the local Mühlenverein Rodachtal e. V.
Outside there are many hands-on features: needle dam, mill race, oak shaft, gear rings, basket wheel and a reconstructed wooden raft as well as a wooden quiz station and child-friendly information panels.
The saw hall and the miller's apartment show working and living conditions from almost 900 years of milling tradition; the site is documented since 1507 and protected as a historical monument, which allows families to discover history.
