Description

Villa Berg is a palatial country house in Stuttgart, built between 1845 and 1853 by Christian Friedrich von Leins in the style of the Italian High Renaissance. It is situated in a landscaped park called Park Villa Berg. The villa served as a summer residence for the Württemberg crown prince couple, later King Karl and Queen Olga. After suffering heavy damage during World War II, it came into the possession of the South German Broadcasting (SDR), which rebuilt it in a simplified manner, added a large broadcast hall, and used it for concerts. Since 2005, the villa has been vacant and left to decay. When SWR, which emerged from South German Broadcasting, undertook an extension building on Neckarstraße, it sold Villa Berg in 2007 to the Häussler Group. After this group’s insolvency in 2010, Villa Berg was sold to the Düsseldorf-based real estate company PDI Property Development Investors GmbH. In June 2015, the city of Stuttgart purchased Villa Berg and the associated television studios for €300,000. The city invested €300,000 for this. Villa Berg is currently in a neglected and dilapidated condition.
