Vulkanpark Infozentrum
Description
The Vulkanpark Infozentrum takes you on an exciting journey back in time to explore the history of the East Eifel and its volcanoes.
The Volcanology exhibit features large illuminated images and impressive film footage that vividly explain the fiery origins of the East Eifel.
The Archaeology exhibition invites you to discover the long history of basalt and tuff stone quarrying from Roman times through the Middle Ages to the present day. Especially in the Stone Experience Garden, you can listen to, touch, and move volcanic stones while enjoying the calming sound of the Nette river flowing over large basalt blocks.
A special highlight is the model of a flat-bottomed barge at a 1:10 scale, showing how these vessels were used in Roman times in the port of Andernach on the Rhine to transport stones.
The visit is designed to be family-friendly, featuring scenarios where parents explain volcanic processes to their children – making learning a shared experience.
