Description

Good luck!

A journey to the treasures of the earth – this is what the experience invites you to with a trip into the impressive underground facilities of the former iron ore mine. During the guided tour, you will travel on the original mine railway into the depths of the Bindweider tunnel. This way, you enter the mine the same way the miners from Steinebach once did.

With helmet and mining lamp, you enter the old mine. The mine railway takes you to the mining sites deep inside the mountain. In the old tunnels and pits, the hard and dangerous work of up to 900 miners at the Bindweide Mine becomes tangible when the original pneumatic drills drive their chisels into the rock amid deafening noise. The circular route through the mine quickly reveals the effort it took to extract over 5 million tons of ore.

Iron ore was mined at the Bindweide Mine for over 200 years, until mining was shut down in 1931. Since 1986, Bindweide Mine has been one of the few show mines in Germany still accessible by train. With a full modernization in 2013 and 2014, the visitor mine Bindweide is today an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

A modern visitor center with a museum and a blacksmith’s smithy make the historic mining experience enjoyable for young and old, families and groups alike. A hiking trail leads to the Barbara Tower – an impressive shaft and observation tower. We look forward to your visit!
