Description

The Altmühltaler Tiererlebniswelt invites families to explore the secrets of local wildlife in the Altmühltal Nature Park – featuring over 800 taxidermied animals displayed in lifelike dioramas.

You’ll encounter fascinating habitats such as native forests, dry and sparse grasslands, and the Altmühl River with its backwaters. Playing animal sounds, especially of nocturnal foxes, martens, and eagle owls, creates an impressive and immersive nature experience.

The museum showcases playful badgers from the Altmühl Jura and reveals how old woodpecker holes are used by jays, tawny owls, and bats. Also captivating are the rare and colorful butterflies living on the park’s sunny, dry grasslands.

The lovingly restored historic Jura half-timbered house from the 17th century houses the exhibition across several floors. Guided tours are offered for groups to deepen the nature experience and provide exciting insights.

The Tiererlebniswelt is part of the Altmühltal Nature Park’s "Extracurricular Learning Sites" project, making it especially valuable for school and youth groups eager to gain an in-depth understanding of nature.
