Feuerwehrmuseum S-H
Description
The Feuerwehrmuseum S-H in Norderstedt invites both young and old to learn more about the history of firefighters and to get up close to vintage fire engines!
Nowadays, it is hard to imagine that fire water used to be pumped manually through long fire hoses. The Feuerwehrmuseum Schleswig-Holstein is the most visited certified fire museum in Germany. The exhibition covers 2,300 square meters and features numerous artifacts from times long past that showcase the fascinating development of firefighting history. A baroque hand pump from the 18th century, a steam fire engine from the 19th century, and the fireboat HOECHST in the outdoor area are just three of many impressive and interesting exhibits. In addition to fire vehicles, the exhibit is complemented by a large library with around 16,000 publications and two detailed model train layouts. Highlights for visitors include the museum festival with many attractions in May and the large artisan Christmas market in December. Educational programs for preschool and elementary school groups are possible with prior booking. Children’s birthday parties are also available at the museum. For kids, there is a lovely play corner and a large fire station playground, making the museum a great outing for the whole family! After the museum visit, you can quench your thirst at the museum restaurant KiM’s. Due to many private events held there, prior reservation at the restaurant is highly recommended.
