Description

The Klöppelmuseum Abenberg showcases over 400 years of delicate bobbin lace tradition – a fascinating mix of history and innovation you can get involved with.

Here visitors discover extraordinary lace pieces in gold and silver that not only sparkle with glamour but also reveal the evolution of art and tools. At interactive stations, you can make bobbin lace yourself and experience the techniques and history up close.

Highlights include handmade lace items such as evening gowns, liturgical vestments, fans, and delicate handkerchiefs that no machine can replicate. The exhibition also displays pattern books and tools that show how bobbin lace has been developed and perfected from generation to generation.

A local specialty is the rare metallic bobbin lace made from materials from the regional wire industry, on display in many variations. For younger visitors, there are special children’s programs that introduce the world of lace in a playful way.

Founded in 1913 as a textile vocational school, the Abenberg Bobbin Lace School now offers a wide range of courses for children and adults. Thanks to a digitized collection, you can also explore the treasures virtually.
