Kreismuseum Osterburg: Von der Frühgeschichte bis heute

Description
## Short description
Housed in an 18th-century half-timbered building, the Kreismuseum Osterburg showcases the history of northeastern Altmark with its rural and small-town society.
## Description
Founded in 1935, the Kreismuseum Osterburg's collection now includes 25,000 objects, including 3,000 archaeological finds from the former Osterburg district. Two permanent exhibitions highlight the unique history of the town: starting from two castle sites, you can experience the city's and district's history from the Middle Ages through the 20th century, as well as learn about Osterburg's special role as a town of schools and asparagus. In the museum courtyard, you'll find parts of the palisade wall and the wooden structure of a castle from the 10th century.
Numerous special exhibitions take place here as well, featuring contemporary artists and special thematic subjects. Another highlight is the annual Osterburg Easter Market with arts and crafts held in the museum's rooms.
Due to construction changes, the building on Breiten Straße is currently closed. Many exhibits and exhibitions can be found at Platz des Friedens 3 in Osterburg.
