Description

## Short Description

The former Katharinenkloster in Stendal is now a cultural center featuring a museum and a music forum. Its charming monastery garden is perfect for taking a peaceful break.

## Description

When the Gothic Katharinenkloster was built in the mid-15th century, the Hanseatic city of Stendal was in its heyday. The permanent exhibition at the Altmärkisches Museum, which has been housed in the former monastery since 1964, tells the story of how Stendal became the largest and richest city in the Mark Brandenburg. You can also trace its transformation into a garrison town and its changes during the industrial revolution.

In 1994, the Music Forum moved into the former monastery church. Alongside concerts ranging from classical to swing and rock, you can also attend readings and cabaret performances here. The Gothic church also provides an elegant setting for weddings and is used for conferences. The original Roland statue is protected here from wind and weather, while its replica stands in front of the town hall.

In the cozy monastery garden, with its herb and rose beds, old fruit varieties, and hop plants, you can relax and let the cultural experiences sink in.
