Description

The Lutherstiege Museum offers you a multimedia experience with historical rooms and original objects that bring to life the history of the Reformation using Augsburg and the time of Martin Luther as examples.

Along a staircase, you can follow a timeline that highlights important events and discoveries before the Reformation, explaining the historical context. An audio play with actors brings the intense theological dispute between Martin Luther and Cajetan to life.

Interactive media stations explain the invention of the printing press with movable type and show how this new medium rapidly and widely spread the Reformation. The exhibition also provides insights into daily life and the political importance of Augsburg in 1518, portrayed through city views and exhibits.

The practice of selling indulgences and Luther’s theological critique of it are vividly explained with sounds and images. A large book documents the history of the Salzburg exiles in Augsburg with pictures and texts – a moving eyewitness account about St. Anna and the Lutherstiege.
