LWL-Museum Zeche Nachtigall

Description
At the LWL-Museum Zeche Nachtigall, dive into the fascinating history of mining in the Ruhr area, right in the Mutten Valley in Witten, where coal was discovered more than 300 years ago.
Experience the underground atmosphere as you walk through low and narrow tunnels to the authentic coal seam mine in the visitor mine. During the tours, you get to wear helmets like the miners and learn clearly how coal forms and which other rocks are found underground.
The sound stations are also exciting, where you can hear the song of the nightingale – the bird motif that gave the mine its name. In the large machine hall, an historic steam engine impresses visitors, with a clear explanation of how it transported the miners and their tools down below.
Afterwards, you can explore the converted brick kiln, as the old mine was later turned into a brick factory with ring kilns that you can even go inside and discover.
This visit is ideal for children and teenagers up to 17 years old. 🎧
