Description

## Brief Description

A mounted Roland, the porcelain industry, and the Brothers Grimm: Museum Haldensleben combines regional cultural history with unique exhibits.

## Description

The classicist facade of the school building from 1866 looks plain. But behind it and the small half-timbered houses in the courtyard, you’ll discover a true museum treasure. Here you dive deep into the city’s history from prehistoric times to the modern era. You also experience Biedermeier everyday life and explore the era of early ceramic and porcelain industry.

Unique are the portrait of Lucretia from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Elder and the mounted Roland from 1528. The statue is the only known depiction of the city knight on horseback. About 250 years separate him from Johann Gottlob Nathusius, the founder of the porcelain industry in Althaldensleben and Hundisburg. A dedicated exhibition section honors him and the following Uffrecht family of artists. Wilhelm Grimm’s granddaughter left the museum part of an estate with numerous books, documents, everyday objects, and much more. Here you come very close to the linguist and fairy tale collector.
