Description

## Brief Description

The hidden courtyard of the Neue Residenz, the Renaissance building where the cardinal lived in grandeur, invites you to relax quietly—you can simply be yourself beneath the trees.

## Description

In the early 16th century, Cardinal Albrecht had the four-winged building constructed in the early Renaissance style as the New Gebew. Along with the cathedral, this Neue Stift was one of the most important ecclesiastical establishments north of the Alps at the time.

Today known as Neue Residenz, the building served as the cardinal's stately residence. Its heyday was in the 17th century during the court of Duke August. Later, the university used the residence as space for collections and several faculties.

In the enchantingly peaceful courtyard, you can escape the city's hustle and simply unwind. Every year at the start of the Handel Festival, staff from the Vocational Training Center and the Halle Jobcenter transform the courtyard into a themed garden—simply wonderful.
